Omani Artist presents in Leipzig

|   Current

"I am very happy," said the the Omani artist Abdulrahim al-Kindi while leaving Leipzig to Dr. Wolfgang Zimmermann of the German-Omani Society, which sponsored his exhibition on the Spinnerei-Tour in Leipzig.

Abdulrahim al-Kindi is a young multimedia conceptual artist and filmmaker from the Sultanate of Oman. In 2017 he was awarded the reknown art prize of the STAL Gallery in Muscat, as Emerging Artist. As part of this award Abdulrahim was given the opportunity to spend one month in May 2018 in the studios of the LIA - Leipzig International Artist Program - in Leipzig, to exchange ideas with other international and also Leipzig artists and to develop his own project.

In his work which he showed in September in Leipzig he focused on the "14 Words and Meanings of the Qur'anic Word of Love". These words based on Arabic poetry tradition where translated by the artist into an emoji symbolic language and then printed. The idea for the work came to the young artist during his first stay in Leipzig in the spring of this year, during his bicycle rides in May along the Karl-Heine-Canal and the combination of this natural and cultural experience with the traditions of his homeland.
