Fred Scholz “The Order of Merit” (first class) as an appreciation for his commendable and admirable continuous role and efforts in serving and promoting Oman in the International arenas in many fields, research studies, books and documentaries on Oman's historical background and geographical rich diversity, as well as the educational fields."

With this award, the Omani Sultan honours our member Professor Fred Scholz for his

long-term, extensive geographic research on beduins and urban areas of Oman. In addition his research associates worked for their doctoral dissertations in various Omani regions: Hartmut Asche in the Batinah, Jörg Janzen in Dhofar, and Wolfgang Zimmermann in Musandam,
intensive and well-founded documentation of the impressive state development of the Sultanate after 1970,
endeavours to open research access to the Sultanate for numerous neighbouring disciplines,
contributions to the nation-building process through several book publications for Omani secondary schools.
