Omani Artists in Residence in Leipzig

Two female Omani artists, Riham Noor and Rawan al-Mahrouqi, worked for two respective one month in a studio of the Leipzig International Art Program (LIA). In addition both establishing contacts with the artists, the German art scene and galleries and explored cultural life in Germany. Riham has returned to painting and Rawan has a special focus on working as a curator, as she also works as Deputy Curator of the Stal Gallery in Muscat.

Our Society has promoted this exchange in cooperation with the Stal Gallery in Muscat.

Both artists will outline in a presentation on 22nd November in Berlin and on the 27th November in Leipzig her Leipzig art projects and will give an insight into the young, growing art scene of the Omani capital Muscat and the work of the Stal Gallery. They will also talk about their experiences and impressions in Leipzig and about the experience of living and working in an artist's residence.

In Oman, this exchange was rated particularly positively, as with the appointment of Dr. Suad al-Lawati, Minister of Art Affairs, a special emphasis is placed on this cultural area.
